Our Impact

With the support of the Pueblo Nuevo Education and Development Group and under the leadership of Adriana Abich, an accomplished educator, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy schools are proving that all children can learn and achieve at high levels.

In 2015, Camino Nuevo earned the Bright Spot Award from the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics for closing achievement gaps between English learners and native English speakers. More recently, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools inducted Camino Nuevo into its Charter Schools Hall of Fame. This national recognition shows that our programs are making a difference and could be applied nationwide to help address educational disparities for English learners.

Camino Nuevo’s two high schools are also models for preparing low-income, first-generation students for college. Since graduating its first class in 2008, Camino Nuevo has maintained a 90 percent cohort graduation rate, with all seniors meeting admission requirements for the University of California and California State University systems. In 2018, 70 percent of seniors achieved admission to a four-year university. The network’s alumni support program also helps graduates complete college. Just 9 percent of low-income students nationwide earn a bachelor’s degree within six years. The rate is more than three times higher for Camino Nuevo graduates.
